Gdańsk Shipyard (Stocznia Gdańskа) is a large Polish shipyard, located in the city of Gdańsk. The yard gained international fame when Solidarity (Solidarność) was founded there in September 1980.

I got a unique chance to roam freely around the shipyard during National Geographic Workshops back in 2006. Our mentor, Mr Tomasz Tomaszewski, managed to get us a one day pass to photograph people at work there. It was a great experience as this specific shipyard means a lot many Polish people thanks to Solidarity and Lech Walesa.
